3, 2009: California Consortium on Postsecondary Options for People with Developmental Disabilities Meeting
Charting Our Future: Benchmarks
2010
The Consortium needs to develop
and implement a plan that moves our vision forward while keeping in mind both
existing state and federal opportunities as well as the economic climate we live
in today. Our fundamental goals to increase public awareness, support the
establishment of a variety of program options for PSE, disseminate information,
and develop mechanisms for collaboration remain the same. What will this work
look like in 2010? Come and formulate our priorities for next year.

16, 2009: Presentation to Kaiser West Los Angeles obstetricians and gynecologists on assessment and counseling of women of child bearing age about drinking during pregnancy.
The greatest opportunities for improvement in pregnancy
outcomes are in prevention strategies implemented prior to conception. Although
there have been substantial gains in improving the health of women and children
in the United
States, much remains to be done. Of specific
concern is the continued use of alcohol by women of child bearing age and the
need to address alcohol use prior to pregnancy in order to prevent an alcohol
exposed pregnancy. Alcohol is a known physical and behavioral teratogen and one
of the leading causes of developmental disabilities. This presentation will
describe recent advances in screening and brief interventions for alcohol use in
women. It is hoped that more knowledge on currently available procedures will
encourage their use in the provision of routine care to all women of
childbearing age.
